Buttercup 2013 is a Kerr Farm Mystery Wine.
The 2013 growing year at Kumeu was a very hot one with very little rain.
The fruit in our vineyard ripened to perfection and gave us some fantastic grapes to work with, although limited quantities.
This very ripe fruit gave us the opportunity to make some very special wines in 2013.
I selected the grapes from the very best vines from our 3 blocks of white grapes.
These were hand picked and crushed into a small fermentation tank, kept cool and free of as much of the atmosphere as possible.
After fermentation the wine was gently aged for a year in seasoned oak, this adding a touch of creaminess.
This wine shows a light Sauvignon Blanc nose with a capsicum mid palate from the Semillon and a creamy peach finish given by Chardonnay.
A very limited quantity of this wine has been made and is very unlikely to ever be made again.
Only 386 bottles in total were made, yes that’s right only 386!.
Bottled in a Classic Burgundy style bottle under Screwcap Closure
